Director's Statement Why did I make this film? Why does anyone make any film? I thought it was relevant, and it was a journey for me to explore why I became who I've become. At eighteen, I was an innocent. I won't say my whole peer group was, but we weren't afraid of so many things... we were curious, hopeful, and as I engaged in the anti-war movement I felt more empowered. I thought I could have it all... make great political films, travel, be an intellectual and part of a socialist revolution. Like my protagonist, I went to college because it was expected of me. It was an easier choice, because I needed the student deferment to avoid going to Viet Nam. In high school I defended my dad's Republicanism, and within two years I was calling him a "capitalist pig."
